My kitten's squeaking

The title says it all really... my kitten, Molly, who's about 3 months old, is squeaking! And it's all the time; she has a bit of a hard time meowing, but she squeaks whenever she's running, playing, jumping... Is it possible she's replaced meowing with squeaking to communicate with me?

I'm not quite sure how to explain what I'm on about ^^.

Is it normal for her to squeak, at least? It's the first time I've ever heard a cat do that 😁😁

Well, mine has started squeaking, but I suspect there's an underlying medical issue. I'm taking her to the vet by the end of the week. She has a massive heart murmur, so I’m worried it’s linked.

She’s started squeaking mostly during exertion, and she’s sneezing. There’s no discharge from her eyes or nose; in fact, her eyes have never looked so clear.

Ugh, it’s a real worry. She squeaks when I pick her up by the tummy. Not constantly, but I can tell something is wrong. She’s still got loads of energy, she’s full of beans, and she’s eating and drinking normally. Her poos are looking fine. But she’s been sneezing regularly for at least five days now and squeaking. In her case, I don’t think that sound is normal at all.

My childhood kitty was nicknamed Pouic-pouic because of that... so cute, I was ever so sad when she learned to meow like a big girl...

    You can't beat a bit of a mix-up 😁

Imagine if your kitten squeaked like a prowling lion’s roar and your dog miaowed like a donkey...

My kitten sounds just like a dolphin XD but I suppose she'll learn how to miaow as she grows up (at worst, my dog already miaows so he can show her the ropes!)

    Hi everyone,

Cats, and perhaps even more so kittens who are still learning the ropes, instinctively make noises and chatter their teeth when they’re excited by potential prey, or just excited in general. It’s like they’re simulating “crunching their prey” in their mouths.

It can result in various different sounds:

It’s normal for a kitten. He’ll likely start meowing as he grows up.

My kitten is exactly the same. He comments on absolutely everything he does, but it sounds more like chicken noises than meows. He makes those sounds when he’s playing and when he’s excited. When he’s hungry or a bit cross, he meows normally.
