My kitten keeps suckling on our hands

Hi, I’ve got a 3-month-old kitten who keeps suckling on my fingers and kneading me with her paws. She does it quite a lot and then just falls fast asleep. Should I let her keep doing it?

Thanks everyone for your advice. For a few days now, following your suggestions, I've been stopping him from suckling. He’s actually starting to ask for it less. I’ll keep going with it then. Thanks again for everything.

Instead of your fingers, there are chew toys specially designed for kittens.

I bottle-fed two kittens (they were only 3 weeks old). One of them is 4 months old now and she still suckles on her new owner—specifically their earlobes and eyelids...

I’m not sure if she’ll grow out of it, but in her case it’s the same as yours; she wasn't weaned by her mum, so she's clearly missing that comfort...

This is classic behaviour for a kitten that's been separated from its mum too early, but it's definitely not your fault.

I have my doubts as to whether he'll ever grow out of the habit.

Mind you, he is still young.

In my opinion, it’s really important that you stop him from doing it.

So, every time he tries, make sure you distract him by throwing a toy or a ball.

Hi Daphnee, there’s a good chance they’ll grow out of it eventually. Mine is 8 now and still does it every now and then, even though he stayed with his mum until he was two and a half months old ^^
