Hi everyone! This morning in the dark, my dad didn't see my cat and accidentally trod on him (because it was pitch black, he doesn't know which part of his body he stepped on). He let out a loud yowl and bolted. He came back home a bit later and seems to be walking and behaving normally, but I'm still really worried... What warning signs should I look out for? Is it necessary to take him to the vet to make sure he's alright?

Evening, honestly I’m feeling really awful tonight. I feel so incredibly guilty 😭 I was coming downstairs and I trod right on my cat who was right in the middle of the floor... he let out a strange meow and now he’s giving me the cold shoulder. I won't be able to sleep, it’s all too much for me 😭 I hope he’s forgiven me by tomorrow. Plus, I’m quite heavy so he must have really felt it.

Hi, personally I’d dream of a girl treading on me with her feet, I wish I’d been your cat 😭

    Hi there,

Stepping on your cat's paw is actually a fairly common accident, but if they seem to be behaving normally, there’s no need to worry. Your cat might have just let out a loud meow because they were startled—it's often more of a fright than anything else, as they say. You should still keep an eye on your pet just to be sure they aren't in any pain: try touching the paw to check they don't react differently than usual, and look out for any potential swelling or if it looks out of shape. Also, keep a close eye to make sure they aren't limping and are moving around as normal.

    All the best,

    Manon

Hi, I was on a stepladder and I didn't see the one-month-old kitten and I stepped on him. He let out a loud cry and was limping, and then I think he must have had internal bleeding. I watched him die. I feel absolutely terrible. My boyfriend told me these things happen and it was an accident, but I feel so incredibly guilty. It won't bring him back, but I just wish I could have avoided it.

I've stepped on my 2-month-old kitten (I think I caught his head, body, and paws a bit) while coming home from work in my safety boots. I'm terrified because he’s hardly reacting at all. He walks a little bit when we try to make him move, but every time we wake him up, he just falls straight back to sleep. I’m so scared something’s going to happen because he’s just curled up in a ball. What should I do????? How are things going now after 2 days???? I did the same thing to mine today! I’m letting her sleep on me so I can keep a really close eye on her.

The same thing happened to me! My kitten (who was 4 months old at the time) also got stepped on!

We took him to the vet just in case since he was so tiny, and the vet put him on morphine for two days but that was all. Two days later he was much better and was zooming around everywhere as usual :)

Mind you, since he’s a kitten and their bones are still mostly cartilage, I’m not sure if it’s the same...
