My cat won't stay out of the bath

Hi everyone.

So, for the last couple of days, my kitten has been spending all his time in the bathroom; he just won't leave. On top of that, whenever he gets the chance, he hops into the bath.

Even when we're having a shower or running the water, he stays right in there.

When he's had enough, he just gets out of his own accord.

The strange thing is that until now he's hated water and never really went into the bathroom at all.

Do you think this change in behaviour is something serious? What do you reckon could be causing it? Thanks in advance for your replies!

Hi everyone. Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately, this behaviour wasn’t just a quirk... Our little Osiris was going into the bathroom looking for warmth from the water, which explains why he was constantly staying in the bath. (I’ve just been to the vet and his temperature is 36.7 instead of 38...) We don’t know what’s causing it yet. He’s going to be on a drip for the whole weekend. I have to tell you, I’m absolutely devastated... There’s a strong chance he might not make it...

    Hi there,

There’s no reason to worry about this new habit. Perhaps your cat just enjoys lapping up water from the bath? Just make sure they always have access to fresh water.

In any case, as long as it isn’t putting them in any danger, you don’t necessarily have to stop them. However, if it’s bothering you, simply keep the bathroom door closed to stop them getting in.

    Have a nice day.

    Hi,

Why would it be an issue that he's suddenly taken such a shine to the bathroom? Cats are fickle creatures and it’s very likely just a phase that will pass as quickly as it started. Mine love curling up in the bottom of the bath too, especially when it’s hot, as the surface stays nice and cool. They also love it when I leave the tap dripping slightly; they find it absolutely fascinating. I don't see any real reason to stop your cat from enjoying such a harmless little quirk.

Put some water in and he won’t go in the bath anymore (warm water)

My 5-month-old is the same ^^ it started completely out of the blue. She's developed a real obsession with the bathroom and water running from the tap, though not quite to the point of joining me for a shower 👎

Has anything changed in your daily routine that might have unsettled your kitty? I don't think it's anything to worry about, though! Worst case, just keep the bathroom door shut every now and again!
