My cat swallowed some polystyrene, help!

Hi everyone.

So here's what's happened: when I got home from work today, my mum, my brother and I found the bin completely ripped apart with a polystyrene tray that had been "chewed up". There's a very good chance it was my cat, Mystic, who ate it! I only found this out a few hours ago and I haven't got any liquid paraffin! I've no idea how much she might have swallowed. What should I do? Should I take her to the vet tomorrow, bearing in mind that I'm a bit short on cash? (I'm only doing temp work over the holidays to pay for my driving licence). Or should I wait for "symptoms" to appear? (At the moment Mystic is sleeping peacefully on the bed). I'm really scared of losing her because I know it's toxic and could be fatal! Thanks a lot for any advice.

I’ll post an update tomorrow! I just hope it’s not too late for my Mystic, as I should have taken her to the vet straight away, but I finished work late and only saw the state things were in afterwards... anyway, I’m really worried. Thanks so much everyone, good night.

Right, I’ve called the out-of-hours vet. I think it was actually Mystic’s usual vet because I woke her up, so I apologised! She told me I need to bring her in tomorrow and that they'll have to remove the polystyrene (ouch, I’m wondering how much it’s going to cost me since I’m only working for the holidays; I have a feeling my whole wages will go on this, but never mind). She asked what the symptoms were and the only thing is she looks like she’s going to be sick. She also said that since it’s food-grade polystyrene, it’s probably a bit less toxic. We’ll see tomorrow; now I just need to find someone to give me a lift there... I’ll see. Anyway, thanks everyone!

I live out in the country in Oyeu, so I’m not sure if those numbers will work for my area. My vet is based in Colombe or Apprieu, but I’ll try giving them a ring! Thanks ever so much for going to all that trouble to find those numbers!
