My cat’s tail keeps puffing up for no reason

Hi everyone!

I’m posting here because for a while now, my kitty has been puffing up her tail while staring at a spot for no particular reason. At first, it made us laugh, but after a while we’ve started wondering what’s wrong with her, as there’s never actually anything there. I know that usually, when a cat puffs up its tail, it’s a sign of fear and they’re trying to look bigger to intimidate something, but in every situation, the spot she’s staring at is completely empty (unless we’ve got ghosts!) 😂😂😂😂

Hi, my girl does that too! When she’s playing in the hallway, she suddenly bolts through with her tail all puffed up, as if she’s been spooked by something, even though I can’t hear any noise or see any movement.

I get that every day too, especially during playtime!

But otherwise, she might have spotted something you missed that’s spooked her (a shadow? a smell?)

But the thing is, at the moment she isn't really interested in playing or being stroked, almost as if she’s sulking. I’ll give it a go during her next episode though, thanks! :)

Hi there, Some cats put on this 'performance' because they’ve got too much pent-up energy and, well, they just start acting up... When she has her 'puffy tail' moments, try having a proper play session with her; there’s a good chance she’ll get stuck in with plenty of enthusiasm. Mine do the same when they start their 'daily zoomies', but instead of staring at one spot, they look all over the place looking like total psychos. I tire them out properly and then everything goes back to normal.
