My cat keeps moving her kittens – why?

Evening everyone,

Since this evening, my cat Cachou has been picking up her kittens in her mouth and moving them around as if she’s looking for a new spot. However, she always ends up bringing them back to the cosy cardboard box I made up for her. Is this normal? Should I be worried?

Is it my fault because I’ve sometimes moved the box into my bedroom with her? I did it because I had the impression that was what she wanted after she spent ages meowing at me. I’m really not sure what to think, so any advice would be great.

Hope to hear from you soon.

There you go, you're already falling for one of the little ones!

    Hehe.

Not at all, I’m always happy to help out and share advice, especially when the conversation is so friendly ;) Anyway, by the time summer comes around, the kitten will have grown up a bit and the mum will be even closer to you, so it should all go smoothly. Are you going by car? I’d suggest putting them in separate carriers (those plastic travel crates with a wire door at the front) because the stress might get to them, and the mum could end up snapping at her little one.

You’ll be accusing me of harassment soon! haha!

We’re going away on holiday this summer – how can I prepare for the journey with the kitty and the little one without stressing them out? Any tips? ;-)

It honestly reeks, it’s absolutely foul!

And that’s exactly why I’ve never wanted to have an entire male in the house so far.

I’ve got two boys and they’ve been neutered, so of course there’s no issue with spraying.

And I’m glad the mum cat has accepted the new “nest” :)

    No, a "urinary" brand ;)

If you get the male neutered "before" he reaches sexual maturity—so before he starts spraying—you won't have any problems.

Anyway, I'm just glad I could be of some help :)

Oh brilliant, that’s really good to know! I was worried that even after being neutered, a cat would carry on scent marking. Cheers Dellys, you’re a walking encyclopedia!! ;-)
