My cat keeps moving her kittens – why?

Evening everyone,

Since this evening, my cat Cachou has been picking up her kittens in her mouth and moving them around as if she’s looking for a new spot. However, she always ends up bringing them back to the cosy cardboard box I made up for her. Is this normal? Should I be worried?

Is it my fault because I’ve sometimes moved the box into my bedroom with her? I did it because I had the impression that was what she wanted after she spent ages meowing at me. I’m really not sure what to think, so any advice would be great.

Hope to hear from you soon.

    And good luck for tomorrow!

Poor you, you won’t be feeling very fresh given how late it is!

    See ya. :)

    Oh, that fast already??

The little rascals are still a bit sluggish for now!

Yes, I’ll take some photos, but Cachou has stressed me out so much with her constant fidgeting that I don’t even dare touch them or open the box anymore!!!

    :-/

Oh yes, they’ll do everything they can to escape that box (haha!)

Hey, could you post some photos for us?

They must have changed so much since the ones on your profile!

In 8 to 10 days, you can start giving them some wet food, dry food, raw beef mince, yoghurt (plain and unsweetened), fromage frais, or even a bit of Laughing Cow (but not every day as it might cause diarrhoea—I’d say every other day, they’ll usually go mad for it).

Stop it, you’re making me blush! ;)

Haha!! See, I told you you’re a walking encyclopedia!!

Are they climbing out of their box on their own yet?

Are they eating mum’s wet food?

    Dellys, you are BRILLIANT!!!

    :-)

Right, so yes, it’s perfectly normal that their eyes are open already.

They’re 18 days old today, so you’ll see that by the end of the week they’ll be clambering about more and more.

I can tell you now, there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON why a nursing cat can’t have an anaesthetic.

I’ve had cats that have had C-sections and there were no problems at all.

Three years ago, I also had a girl who had to have a C-section 10 days after giving birth (I hadn't had an X-ray done and one kitten had died), and there were no issues – the little ones just kept on nursing.

Your kittens will start eating around mid-May (maybe even a bit earlier), so there’s no problem getting her spayed at the end of May.

The kittens were born on the evening of 12th April and for now they’re just sleeping the whole day away, though they are starting to have the occasional bit of a rough and tumble — but only a little bit.

Yes, I need to head to the vet as I think he said I had to wait about six weeks after she's had her litter, but isn't anaesthesia risky while a cat is still nursing? Wouldn’t it be better to wait until they’re weaned?? Oh dear, so many questions!!! :-/

You should leave the mother cat and the kitten in a room with the window left ajar on the latch.
