Hi everyone, since yesterday my cat (she's about 4 years old) has been fine and isn't acting any differently than usual, but she keeps lifting her front right paw whenever she stands still, even though she isn't even limping. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else or if anyone knows what might be causing it?

Thanks in advance, have a lovely evening!

Hi, I’m going through something very similar at the moment. My cat has only just started doing this – when he’s standing still, he lifts either his right or left paw, but he isn’t limping! If it carries on, I’ll have a word with my vet. 🫤

Check to see if she's got something stuck on or in the fur on her paw. It reminds me of how a cat acts when they've got a bit of Sellotape on their foot, but it could also be a burr. If she'll let you, have a look between her toes by gently pressing on her pads to extend the claws; that way, if she's in pain, you'll find out soon enough (obviously, be careful not to hurt her).

Hi there, If she’s holding her paw up in a weird way when she didn’t used to, it might be because something is hurting her paw or her pads, and she’s trying to avoid putting any weight on it. Being able to recognise paw problems is really important, as injuries are actually quite common. A cut on the pad could happen from a bit of metal, a stone, or even jumping over a fence. She might have torn a claw, too. Falls or scraps with other cats can also cause all sorts of issues, from bites and dislocations to full-on fractures. Based on those possibilities, I’d suggest giving her a good once-over and keeping a close eye on exactly how she’s walking and if it changes. If it doesn’t get better or she starts limping properly, you’ll need to get her to the vet pretty quickly. In the meantime, just keep an eye on her and make sure she isn't doing too much exercise. But if you’re in any doubt at all, get her checked out! Hope that helps a bit, Have a lovely evening, Paul
