My cat has a lump on his neck

Hi everyone,

Yesterday, while I was stroking my 3-year-old cat, I made a worrying discovery: at the base of his neck, there is a lump about 4-5 cm wide. It feels hard to the touch and it doesn't seem to be causing him any pain.

I'm planning to take him to the vet at the end of the week if it's still there, or sooner if it gets any bigger.

We had to have my previous cat put down when he was 14 due to cancer and I don't want to go through the same thing with Coocky.

Could it be a cyst? An abscess? A tumour?

I noticed a few days ago that he has fleas, could it be related to that? Or maybe ticks?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Yeah, he goes out whenever he likes. I often hear him getting into scraps, so that could be it.

    Hi there,

It could be any number of things. Does your cat go outside? She might have got into a scrap and ended up with an abscess.

If there’s no improvement over the next 2-3 days, or if it starts to look worse, make sure you take them to the vet.
