The needle biopsy showed significant inflammation but no cancer cells. However, the lymph node is apparently too large for it to be benign, and there’s been no response to the treatment so far—it hasn’t shrunk at all.
My vet called the lab back to have them test the biopsy sample for FIP; if they find it, the result is 100% certain, but if they don’t, there’ll still be some doubt...
She told me to keep him on the antibiotics and anti-inflammatories for another 8 days while we wait for the results. If it’s negative, we’ll try increasing the steroid dose.
I’ve looked into the experimental treatment, but it’s so expensive :/ You still need to have the cat monitored by a vet, and you have to be able to give the injections yourself, which are apparently really painful for them, with no guarantee of success and no real way of knowing how long the remission might last.
Mine weighs just over 7 lbs, but he’s tall so he’s very thin. I had a call from the vet this morning, plus a second opinion. The prognosis isn’t good; I’m so sad. It’s just not fair.
She was only 6 lbs 3 oz when I took her to the vet, even though her ideal weight is around 7 lbs 11 oz, or even more.
2nd day on the gel, he’s managed to eat a little bit of dry and wet food. Mind you, the amounts aren't massive, but it’s a start. I’ve got an appointment with a different vet tomorrow for a second opinion.
