I was wondering if any of you have used Mirataz gel? I'd like to know if you saw any results and if there were any side effects?
Thanks

Hi everyone,
My cat is on Mirataz. She’s put some weight back on and is eating well, but she’s drinking a lot and has diarrhoea. I’m seeing my vet later today. My girl is diabetic and I have a feeling this medication is making her drink a lot more.
But why are you asking this on a forum instead of asking your vet? And how can you possibly take advice from a chemist instead of your vet? Forgive me, don't take it personally, but I don't understand you at all! See an EMERGENCY VET, NOT YOUR CHEMIST, BANKER OR GP! It’s madness!
Er, it was my vet who prescribed it and my chemist followed the prescription, I didn't just make it up as I went along. I did ask my vet, who has actually seen my cat, but they told me it wasn't serious; it's just that my cat is making weird noises when she eats and doesn't seem to be enjoying it, which is why I was asking!

Go see an EMERGENCY VET AND NOT YOUR PHARMACIST, BANKER, OR GP! It’s absolute madness!
My pharmacist told me to apply it to her gums instead of her skin, but after 48 hours I’ve realised it was a mistake. Is this serious? My cat reacted really badly, drooling and foaming at the mouth when I put it on. Could she have been hurt or is it just irritation?

Mine was borderline obsessive with her food, but since yesterday I think she's starting to regulate her appetite a bit better. It all depends on what’s wrong with the cat though; if there’s a really serious health issue, it won’t make much difference unfortunately, but every cat is different and they might just need a bit more time. If he’s eating even a little bit, at least that’s something, as mine wouldn’t eat a single thing – I was having to force-feed her.
Hi Pixel,
I’m crossing my fingers as well that the results go the right way.
As for the appetite, my cat also has an ointment to apply to the inside of her ear flap (Mirtazapine). I found her to be quite lethargic during the first few days and I wondered if it was down to that product.
But you have to take the other treatments into account too. Their little bodies are fighting through a real rough patch. We don’t have much of an appetite when we’re feeling poorly either.
It’s really important that they keep eating and drinking during this time.
I’m waiting for the results. He’s eating very little despite the gel; we’re on day four now. He’s having a bit of wet food (mostly just the jelly on top) and between 20 and 35g of dry food—it’s not much :/
I'm not entirely sure what that treatment involves, but I know it exists. Whether it's actually effective or not is another thing... anyway, I really hope the little guy pulls through.
