Lump on my cat's back

Hi everyone,

A few days ago, I noticed this strange lump on my cat's back. It looks like a skin growth; it doesn't seem to be painful for him and it isn't itchy at all.

I'm wondering if I should take him to the vet, especially since he's lost hair in that spot and the bump wasn't there just a few weeks ago? Does anyone have any idea what it might be?

Thanks in advance

Hi everyone, I’ve also noticed a perfectly round lump with some pus on my cat's back, and the fur has fallen out around it. I’ve disinfected it and it doesn’t seem to be bothering him or causing him any pain. I’ve had a proper look through his coat and there aren’t any others. If you’ve been to the vet, is it serious? I only spotted the lump this morning and I’ve been searching the internet ever since. I’m so glad I came across your post. Thanks a lot for any info you can share.

Thanks for your reply, I'll keep an eye on it. I definitely feel like the lump has got bigger; is there anything I can do in the meantime before a visit to the vet?

Hi there, Skin lesions that aren't itchy can be caused by certain parasites, such as ringworm or demodex (some types are itchy, others aren't), or they could have non-parasitic causes. I’d recommend seeing a vet if the spot gets any bigger, starts to bother your cat, or if any more appear. Sometimes these parasites can cause similar issues in humans, so it’s worth checking yourself to make sure you haven't been affected too. Hope this helps, Lauranne
