I'm looking to get my cats' paw prints tattooed, but I bought a kit that didn't really work very well... Since the delivery times are long and they're a bit pricey, I'm after some other ideas... I've thought about using food colouring? Salt dough? Maybe even mud? But I'm not sure if any of that will work... I also saw that you can scan them, but knowing my cats, that's just not going to happen...
Any ideas?

How about some kind of spice? Like turmeric – something that stains well but doesn't sting? Maybe diluted in a tiny bit of water? Should I just brush it on or something?
I’ve just had a thought – I’ve got some coconut charcoal powder for teeth whitening, it’s organic and vegan. Maybe if I dilute it in water and dip his paws in, it’ll work?
You could give it a go, but don’t dilute it too much, otherwise it’ll be too runny to show up properly. Maybe try mixing it in a small bowl so you only have to dip the paw pads in without soaking the whole leg.
You could try using mud, but I don't think it’ll be sharp or detailed enough to work for a tattoo. At least with something liquid, it gets into all the tiny details of the print, and then you just have to press it onto some paper.
You should be able to find something pet-safe in a health food shop, but do make sure you check the label properly; unfortunately, just because something’s organic doesn’t necessarily mean it’s good for them.
Was the kit you used specifically for pets? You might be able to find the same product that was in the kit without having to reorder the whole thing from scratch.

Hi there, just wanted to say I think it’s a lovely idea! I’ve actually got a cat tattoo on my wrist myself to represent my cats – though that doesn't really answer your question, sorry. It’s fairly straightforward with a dog, but a cat is much trickier ^^' The paw print needs to be really clear and sharp for a tattoo, so I don't think mud or salt dough would work that well. Food colouring might be worth a go, but maybe check the ingredients first, just in case.
Yes, I want something non-toxic, which is why I was thinking of food colouring... rather than ink... Maybe from a health food shop?
I did have some luck with a kit, but by the time I’d figured out how it worked, I’d pretty much used it all up. Plus, my cats were getting impatient, so it ended up smudging...
It’s true that the prints are tiny. Plus, my girl has tufts of fur between her pads, so I’m not even sure if it’ll look that good... but I really want some cat paw tattoos, so they might as well be my own kitties' paws.
But when they walk in the mud, you can see their little footprints on the cars, so I don't see why it wouldn't work on card?
Hi there, I just wanted to say I think that's a brilliant idea! I've actually got a cat tattooed on my wrist to symbolise my own cats—anyway, that doesn't really answer your question, sorry!
It’s fairly straightforward with a dog, but cats are a bit more of a challenge ^^' The paw print needs to be really clear and sharp to work for a tattoo, and I don't think mud or salt dough would give you a good enough result. Food colouring might be worth a try, but maybe double-check the ingredients first, just in case.
