Cat with swollen upper right lip. What should I do?

Good evening,

My kitty has just come home and her upper right lip is all swollen! It has at least doubled in size!

I’ve had a look inside her mouth but there’s nothing there, then I noticed she has a sort of scratch going from her lip almost up to her whiskers.

I think she must have been in a fight and it's probably got infected; she was fine this morning.

She’s just eaten so I don't think it's bothering her too much, however I’d like to know if there's anything I can do or if I should just wait.

(I don’t think it’s a bee sting as there aren’t any in the garden.)

Thanks

    Hi Angeline

I cleaned Minouch with some antiseptic yesterday.

This morning it hadn't changed at all, it's still just as swollen, but I’m waiting to see what happens and I’ll give the vet a ring this afternoon.

I’m going to clean it again when I get home.

    Thanks for the advice.

Personally, I don’t think so. My vet told me that a standard antiseptic spray was fine and I didn’t really ask any more questions, so I’m not sure what other disinfectants to suggest. If you’re worried, give an out-of-hours vet a ring; they’ll be able to tell you what to do and it doesn’t cost a penny :).

    Thanks.

    Can I use any disinfectant?

Hi there, if it’s infected you need to clean it. If it carries on like this, there could be serious consequences... the lip might be full of pus, so you really need to see a vet. Disinfect it with a solution that doesn't sting and try to get to the vet's tomorrow as soon as you can.
