Cat with swollen upper right lip. What should I do?

Good evening,

My kitty has just come home and her upper right lip is all swollen! It has at least doubled in size!

I’ve had a look inside her mouth but there’s nothing there, then I noticed she has a sort of scratch going from her lip almost up to her whiskers.

I think she must have been in a fight and it's probably got infected; she was fine this morning.

She’s just eaten so I don't think it's bothering her too much, however I’d like to know if there's anything I can do or if I should just wait.

(I don’t think it’s a bee sting as there aren’t any in the garden.)

Thanks

That’s good news, she’ll pull through. Don’t forget to give her the meds. But did he give her both treatments at the same time?

Just got back from the vet. The results are in: it’s either an infection or an oedema, but they aren’t entirely sure yet. I’m giving him antibiotics and anti-inflammatories, as well as some ointment. Now we just have to wait a week.

I’ve booked an appointment at the vet for Thursday

Regarding the advice from the junior clinic

I’m disinfecting her every day; thanks for the tip, I wasn’t leaving the product on for long enough

For now, she’s behaving as normal

    Good evening,

You’re quite right about the disinfectant you’re using. It’s very effective as it’s broad-spectrum and causes very little irritation.

To use it properly, give the area a good clean with water first, then apply the disinfectant, trying to leave it to work for at least 5 minutes. Your cat will likely try to groom themselves and lick the product off, but after 5 minutes, most of it will have already done its job.

If you notice any changes in your pet’s behaviour or appetite over the next few weeks, don’t hesitate to see your vet and remind them about this injury. Even though these kinds of scratches usually heal up perfectly well, it is possible that some nasty germs could have been introduced.

    All the best,

    Joachim

Wait, you haven't been to see a vet?!!! Even if it isn't bothering her, if it gets infected it's going to turn into an abscess (if it hasn't already) and the worry is that it could get much more serious from there...

    No, I haven't got a photo.

I’ve disinfected it again; I cleared away the scabs and gave the wound a proper clean. She didn’t make a peep, which is actually quite surprising for her, as she usually lashes out the second I get near her with any antiseptic.

I tried squeezing the wound but nothing came out.

She’s eating and drinking normally and just going about her usual business; it really doesn’t seem to be bothering her at all.
