Something stuck to my cat's bottom

Hi everyone,

Sorry about the photo I’m about to post, but I’m looking for some advice. I went to the vet the day before yesterday about a cough, and I took the opportunity to mention that my cat had a bit of poo stuck to his bottom.

Something stuck to my cat's bottom

It’s the little black thing on the right in the photo. (By the way, you need to tilt your head to the right to see it properly as the picture is sideways). She told me it wasn’t poo. She thinks it might be an anal gland that’s slightly protruded because apparently my cat isn’t grooming himself properly.

While that’s possible, I’m a bit puzzled. I’ve tried softening it with a damp cloth and even tried to scrape it (he won’t let me, which is fair enough, and the thing is bone dry!)... my cat’s behaviour hasn’t changed; he’s eating and playing, though I’ve maybe noticed his poos are smaller than they used to be. She also said it could be the start of an abscess, but she didn’t seem convinced, and obviously, neither am I. I didn’t want to push the point as I think she thought I was being an over-anxious owner. But he’s had this thing for two weeks now!! It doesn’t seem to be bothering him that much, though. Plus, when he tenses up, the thing disappears into a fold—it’s so annoying, haha.

Has this happened to anyone else here?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Apply some Vaseline for a few days to soften it up... then try to get it off by gently rubbing with a damp cloth and warm water...

Did you ever find a solution or an explanation for this?! Or is it still a mystery!! Sorry, I haven’t got a solution, I’m just as worried! My kitten has the same thing stuck to them! I don’t know what to do! And nobody’s given me a proper answer yet! I really hope someone finds a solution that helps you out 😔

    Thanks Kalou.

Yeah, I’ve tried, but nothing’s worked.
