Rescue cat looking for her adopted kittens

A few days ago, I adopted Muscat, a one-year-old cat, from an RSPCA foster home. She was rescued and then fostered after having a litter, then spayed. I’ve only recently adopted her and I didn’t get any information about how old the kittens were.

The problem is she meows whenever she sees a human and just spends her time looking for (I think) her kittens.

I’m worried she was separated from them too early and didn't have time to finish weaning them. All her kittens have been adopted now, so there’s no way to bring them back.

I’d really like to find a way to help her realise that her kittens aren't there anymore; it’s quite heartbreaking to see her searching for them and calling out in vain.

Thanks for any advice.

She was separated from her kittens the day before yesterday and was spayed two weeks ago.

    Thanks for your reply :)

Hi there, It’s perfectly normal for a mother cat to go looking for her kittens after weaning. That said, this behaviour usually only lasts a few days, or a couple of weeks at most. How long has it been since she was separated from them? And how long ago was she spayed? It’s quite likely that this behaviour is down to something else entirely. Could it be attention-seeking, over-attachment, or is she trying to tell you she’s unhappy about something? Or maybe she’s just a very chatty girl! :) It’s hard to tell without a bit more info. Julie
