Pregnant cat and constant meowing

Hi everyone, my 3-year-old cat is having her second litter. With her first pregnancy, the days leading up to her giving birth were calm and everything went well. But this time, she is only 30 days along (she's not full term yet, as that's usually 60-64 days max) and she won't stop meowing. This didn't happen during her first litter until she was actually in labour. She's due between the 10th and 21st of May 2018, so any advice in the next fortnight would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Jade.

Thanks for all your replies; we’ve contacted our vet and they’ve confirmed there’s no cause for alarm. We’re keeping a very close eye on her though, as her due date might be sooner than we first calculated --'.

Personally, I’d say it’s better to pop to the vet for nothing than to be left grieving for your girl. Also, remember to get a scan to find out the number of kittens; it’ll be really useful to make sure they’ve all come out once she’s finished giving birth...

Thanks for your replies, but she’s stopped meowing now, so we think it was just a bit of pain that’s passed.

I’d also prefer to see the vet, even if it’s for 'nothing'; small build, fine! First litter was spot on, fine! But sometimes that’s not always the case, even if everything was okay the time before...

Personally, I’d get her to the vet for a check-up. Having a litter is no small feat, and just because the first one went smoothly, it doesn’t mean the second one will. You should never just assume "everything’s fine" with this kind of thing, especially if you’re not a breeder. She might be in pain or feeling quite distressed... there’s no way for us to know what’s wrong or if it’s normal. We can’t tell you everything is okay from behind a screen; we’re only making guesses which, if taken too seriously, could have grave consequences for your girl and her kittens!

Thank you, that’s really put my mind at rest! Everything went smoothly with her first litter, but since she’s got such a small frame, I did wonder if her bump was just making her feel a bit uncomfortable 🙄

Maybe it’s just that the kittens moving around too much is bothering her! If she settles down when you comfort her, it probably isn't anything too serious. Still, it’s always best to check with your vet just for peace of mind.

A cat can give birth from the 57th day of pregnancy onwards. Usually, the larger the litter, the shorter the pregnancy.

Look, it’s our choice, and personally I don’t see why you think you can judge the way we raise our cats. Just so you know, we have other female cats that are spayed, it’s just that we can't afford to do them all at once as it's too expensive. I should also mention that we work with the RSPCA to help us fund their care (we’ve rescued, treated, and rehomed cats into lovely families). Anyway, the point isn't who can give me a lecture first, but whether it’s normal for a cat that's about 42 days into her pregnancy to start meowing all over the house. I want to make it clear she’s in good health and isn’t showing any signs of pain or anything; it’s just occasional meowing that stops when we reassure her.

    Hi there

This might be a bit of a touchy subject!!!!!

Why haven't you had your cat spayed?

She's only 3 and this is already her second litter...

Personally, I’d be getting in touch with my vet; it seems more sensible to me so she can have proper follow-up care

Not every pregnancy goes the same way

She might have an underlying issue that only a vet can help you with
