Need help - my cat's injured his nose

Hi everyone,

I'm really worried and I'm planning to take my cat to the vet first thing on Monday. I'm so anxious and I often come to this forum for advice, so I thought maybe you could reassure me or give me some early thoughts on what it might be.

I'm actually away from home at the moment and my sister is looking after him. I'll be back from my trip on Monday morning and will be taking him straight there.

His name is Nairobi. When my sister got home last night, she noticed his nose was raw and looked infected.

But yesterday morning when I left, I said goodbye to him like I do every morning and his nose was fine... he must have injured himself during the day, but I can't imagine how, or maybe it's something more serious.

This morning his nose looks a bit less infected (as she's been cleaning it with some Betadine) but it's still just as raw.

Do you have any idea what might be wrong with him?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for your reply, that’s put my mind at rest a bit. As for the wound on the outside, that’s the strange thing—he’s an indoor cat and doesn’t go out at all at the moment...

Anyway, I think I’ll be heading to the vet on Monday regardless!

    Thanks all

Hi there, the bleeding seems to be coming from the outside of his nose, which is much more reassuring than if it were internal. Your cat might have caught the end of his nose while he was out and about—maybe while sniffing something or perhaps a little rodent nipped him. There's no need to worry too much as long as the bleeding has stopped and it doesn't look infected (keep an eye out for any pus); it should be fine by Monday. Just watch out for any changes in his behaviour, like if he stops eating for instance. Keep disinfecting the area but make sure not to pull off any scabs that might form. If it’s still looking raw by Monday, you could see the vet just to be on the safe side.

    Best wishes,

    Camille
