My kitten meows when he's in his litter tray

Thanks for your replies. I’m going to try cleaning out the litter tray more often and then moving it to a different spot to see!

In my opinion, your kitten could be meowing for a variety of reasons.

He might have simply picked up the habit as a kitten, in which case there’s no need to worry. However, meowing isn't always for no reason. To find out, you could try setting up another litter tray in a different spot and observe your cat to see if it’s just a habit or not.

Your kitten might be meowing if he feels his litter tray isn’t clean enough. It should be scooped out several times a day to ensure there’s no waste left behind. The litter itself should be changed as often as possible.

He might also be complaining if he doesn’t like the tray itself. For example, if it's a covered tray, you could try removing the lid. Sometimes, cats don’t like feeling boxed in when they’re doing their business.

Hello. It might just be a habit he’s picked up. As long as he’s doing his business properly and doesn't seem to be in any pain, I don’t think there's any need to worry.

My own cat used to meow whenever he used his litter tray as well, as if to say "occupied!". Now that he’s an adult, he does it much less often.
