Did my title catch you off guard? Well, it surprised me too... let me explain. For the last few days, I’ve noticed some strange behaviour from my cat that I’ve never seen before! Since the arrival of my newest addition, Skip, my older cat Swiffer has been mounting him, and I’ve noticed he’s actually got an erection! I move him away and think to myself that maybe Swiffer is just in love with Skip, which doesn't bother me at all! But I've noticed he’s doing it quite often now, and this evening he was even going through the motions without even being on top of little Skip, and his willy was out once again. So now I’m starting to worry... is it a way of showing who's boss in the house? Or does he just have certain "urges", which I can understand, just like any other animal or human in this world 😊
Anyway, I’m wondering what’s going on...
I'm looking forward to your replies! Thanks everyone!

Hi Yuna,
Thanks so much for your reply! I'm going to let them sort things out between themselves while making sure it doesn't get out of hand! I was thinking about using some calming cat diffusers at home, do you think that's a good idea?
Yeah Paquerette, I thought fadadou was coming back to give us an update on his "biological warfare" against those pesky fleas... 😁
Oh well, never mind!
As for your cats, I think the best thing is to let the kitten defend itself and find its feet on its own!
Sexual behaviour is a natural part of animal life, though you do have to make sure the kitten (the potential victim) isn't finding it a total nightmare.
Usually, cats won't just take it lying down and they have their own ways of sticking up for themselves.
Mind you, I'm always surprised by this behaviour since being neutered or snipped should logically get rid of any sexual urges. Anyway, I reckon unless there's a proper scrap or a submission wound on the scruff of the neck—a dominant male tends to bite and hurt his "prey" on the scruff to make them submit—it's best to just leave them to it and wait for the kitten to sort things out himself.
Hi @fafadou,
I’m having exactly the same issue (a new cat, both are neutered, and the older one keeps trying to 'mount' the other, with his 'willy' out).
Did you ever manage to sort the problem out?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Evening,
If your adult male hasn't been neutered, it's not surprising at all. The only solution is to have him neutered, as well as the new arrival as soon as he's old enough. Cats getting along, especially males, goes infinitely better if they’ve been neutered.
If your adult male is already neutered, 'mounting' can be a display of dominance. However, the erection doesn't really make sense in that case, unless he’s only just been neutered and still has some male hormones in his system.
