Same here... as I've never come across anything like this with all my rascals.
And that's what I said in my second post, Sevv ;)
Matilde, I'm still curious to hear their thoughts
I couldn't have put it better myself... thanks Euqinorev ;)
I'm finding those claw sheaths as well.
My cat's claws used to be really firm and sharp until I started looking more closely at his paws recently; now they look like a human's fingernails when they’ve been bitten down...
I’ve also noticed he’s meowing a lot more, as if he wants to play but then doesn't really get into it... I wonder if it's all connected...?
It might be nothing, I know,
but we do tend to worry about our little ones :)
thanks for your replies
Claw sheaths, yes Sevv—the "outer layer"—but claws that are splitting and chewed right down to the quick? Especially as this has only just started happening with Matilde’s cat, and she’s had him for a while now, so she definitely knows what a cat’s normal grooming looks like. I find claw sheaths all over the place too, yet my little ones' claws are in perfect condition, nice and sharp.
I know I’m a bit of a worrier, but this still seems quite strange to me.
Just to clarify, he’s been used to regular change since he was a kitten (housemates) and I have to admit he seems to love it when I move the furniture around.
But you’re right, there must be something bothering him...
Oh, if only I could speak 'cat' =^^=
Thanks Euqinorev for your replies, and I’ll probably head to the vet...
Some cats are particularly sensitive to even the slightest change in their environment and routine, so it’s quite possible that your mum’s presence is unsettling him. And the fact she’s only away for a single week won’t change anything, if that is the reason, of course.
You should mention it to your vet; they might prescribe some Anxitane or Zylkene, which are mild calming aids specifically for cats. But if I were you, I’d take your little lad in for a check-up so the vet can look at his claws and make sure it’s not a symptom of an underlying physical issue.
Your boy has such gorgeous blue eyes! :)
My mum moved in with me three months ago,
but she’s been away for a week now, and he’s still doing it.
