How to tell if my cat has eaten glass?

Hi everyone, I've got a bit of a worry with my 5-month-old kitten. Last night, I had my oven on a pyrolytic self-cleaning cycle, and this morning I found that the door had shattered into pieces. We've cleaned it all up, but my kitten might have potentially swallowed a shard of glass. What symptoms should I look out for if he's ingested a foreign object? Just to mention, he seems fine at the moment. He doesn't seem to be in any pain when I touch his tummy, and he's slept for most of the morning. Should I take him to the vet for a check-up? I might be worrying over nothing, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Thanks for your help!

    Hi there,

If a cat swallows a sharp foreign object, there is a high chance that their stomach or digestive tract could be perforated. Symptoms of such a perforation include retching, blood in their stools or urine, and vomiting blood...

This is actually quite rare and causes very clear signs of distress in your pet almost immediately. Since yours isn't showing these, it’s very unlikely they’ve swallowed any glass. However, please do keep a close eye on them and if the situation gets any worse, make sure to see a vet right away. You should also check their paw pads, as they might have been cut by the glass.

    I hope this helps,

    Have a lovely day,

    Paul

Hi, I really doubt he’s eaten any glass. Glass doesn’t have an attractive scent for cats. However, he could easily have cut his paw pads by walking on it.
