How to stop my cat scratching at doors?

Hi everyone, I've got a one-year-old cat who scratches at the doors every morning to get me up. Not only is she damaging the doors—which is a real worry as I'm in a rented place—but she’s also driving me up the wall. I wake up feeling just as tired as when I went to bed; that 4am wake-up call is far too early.

I was wondering if any of you have a miracle cure to get her to stop scratching? I've already tried a repellent spray from the pet shop, but it hasn't made any difference at all; she just carries on as if nothing's there.

The only solution, in my opinion, is to call in a behaviourist.

Hi everyone, I’m having the same issue with my little 3-month-old kitten and I’d really love to find a solution. I’m in a flatshare, and on top of that, the doors aren’t soundproofed at all. I love my kitten to bits, but it’s just getting unbearable now – if anyone has a miracle fix, please let me know!

Ever since I got my cats, I’ve been looking for a solution too, even though they wait for the alarm now (except at the weekend when everyone’s up at 6-7 am), whereas it used to be 3-4 am. We’ve tried everything: telling them off, leaving the door open (so they stopped meowing but came to play on top of us instead, which wasn't much better...), getting up to feed them (even when there was still food in their bowl) and then going back to bed, but nothing works. We more or less manage to ignore them and get back to sleep now, but it doesn't change anything; they’re tireless and take it in turns to meow non-stop. Eventually, one of us (my partner or I) ends up getting up, which allows the other to have a bit of a lie-in.
