Hi everyone, I've just seen an advert for EQUILIBRE ET INSTINCT pet food. I've had a look at their website and the food looks quite good.

Has anyone tried it before?

"But look, you're constantly contradicting Sevv, Leytiri and me, so you're not exactly respecting other people's choices yourself, are you!!!!!!!"

The thing is, I have NEVER contradicted them; I'm just asking for everyone's opinions to be respected, but apparently that's too much to ask...

    Cheers Farfalla ;)

As for the litter, the brand doesn't really matter; it can be a budget one like Farfalla said. It’ll just be less convenient and will need cleaning out more often – that’s the only downside. However, you do need to make sure it’s not too dusty.

Some people prefer to just scoop out the clumps and do a full deep-clean of the tray every week or even every month, while others prefer non-clumping litter but clean out the whole tray several times a week.

Be careful with mineral litters if your cat isn't used to them, and wood-based litters are a definite no-go.

Chill out everyone, we can have a chat and share our views even if we don't agree, without it being disrespectful...

In this instance, Ange- was just giving her opinion, and Javaham, there’s no need to react like that – you’ve got your own opinion and you've shared it too.

High-quality dry foods like those grain-free brands aren't just a fad, regardless of what you say. That's absolute rubbish. They're actually the most suitable options on the market. But honestly, you never stop contradicting Sevv, Leytiri and me, so you clearly don't respect anyone else's choices either, do you!!!!!!!

When it comes to cat litter, there is so much choice out there!

    Personally:

I prefer clumping litter (I find it more hygienic: the urine forms "clumps" that you scoop out at the same time as the poo).

That said, I don't think a big brand name always equals quality, and the same goes for the price!

For clumping ones, I’ve tried Catsan; it's very effective and keeps odours at bay, but it is a bit pricey.

I decided to take a gamble and try some budget brands. It’s true that the clumps are a bit more crumbly, which makes them less convenient to scoop out, but the price is almost half what I was paying before.

Maybe I’ve just been lucky, but I haven’t had any issues with smells and my cat hasn't even noticed (at least he doesn't seem to mind).

At the moment, I’m using a budget clumping litter (from Lidl or a supermarket own-brand like Tesco). It suits me and my cat just fine.

(I know using budget products might not be to everyone's taste, but as long as it isn't putting my cat in any danger, I don't see the issue...)

Otherwise, there are other threads on this subject ;) for example:

Milleetunefleurs, the main thing is that the dry food is good quality and, above all, that it suits your cat.

Ever heard of freedom of speech, Javaham?

Better to have a dry food with well-prepared, high-quality grains and quality meat that is ABSOLUTELY NOT HARMFUL, than a kibble full of low-quality meat!

"And the first ingredient is meat meal, so it’s not real meat ;)"

Well, you need to learn how to read and respect other people!

This dry food is made with fresh meat!

I’d rather stick with a food that has kept cats healthy for over 20 years than blindly following some new "trend" that has NO proven track record.

And unlike you, I actually respect other people’s choices!

Thanks for your replies. I’m spending my days off comparing reviews for different dry food brands and honestly, even with the big brands, the reviews are so mixed (risk of diarrhoea etc...). I’m completely lost as I’ve never had a cat before. I used to have a female German Shepherd and we fed her Pro Plan dry food and she was in great health. And don't even get me started on cat litter, it’s exactly the same! Help! I want the best for my future kitten while still being sensible about the price, because as we all know, you're often just paying for the brand name! Also, for ordering online, Zooplus is more expensive than Bitiba—is it a reliable site? Thanks for your help, I’m feeling really discouraged....

They’re made with fresh meat, selected grains for good digestibility, a reasonable fat content, low calcium and phosphorus levels, and a low ash content (which proves the quality of the meat). Production is also strictly controlled.

The reviews are positive, and they’re meat-based.

    No downsides really; they’re good.

The main thing is that the dry food is high quality and that your cat gets on well with it.

    Hi there, Mrs mes-chats-sont-des-poules!

You should steer clear of this dry food simply because it contains grains. That should be the first red flag. Plus, the first ingredient is meat meal, so it’s not even proper meat ;)

    Poor quality food.

They’re made using fresh meat and grains selected for easy digestion, with sensible fat levels, low calcium and phosphorus, and a low ash content (which proves the quality of the meat). The production is also very well-regulated. The reviews are positive, and they’re meat-based. No negatives at all; they’re a solid choice. The main thing is that the dry food is high quality and that your cat gets on well with it.

"Equilibre & Instinct" (they really need to rethink that name) – I’d have called this kibble "Fast food for cats who’ve lost all their carnivorous instincts"!

    The ingredients:

Poultry by-products (26%), wheat flour, soya protein concentrate, maize flour, duck fat, pork by-products, wheat gluten, fish, rice flour, yeasts. Antioxidants, nutritional additives (vitamin D3: 1477 IU/kg, vitamin E: 741 mg/kg, Taurine: 2716mg/kg, vitamin C: 370 mg/kg, Zinc (zinc oxide): 297 mg/kg, carnitine: 251 mg/kg, calcium carbonate: 1.48%, dicalcium phosphate: 1.42%.

Typical analysis: crude protein 34%, crude fibre 3%, crude fat 14%, crude ash 4%, moisture 9%.

THIS DRY FOOD IS INDUSTRIAL POISON, just look at the ingredients. Not a single bit of fresh meat, just by-products, and packed with grains. Honestly, you'd be much better off choosing a brand like Nutrivet => http://www.zooplus.co.uk/esearch.htm#q=Nutrivet%20cat

RAW FEEDING IS STILL THE BEST OPTION – a meat-based diet specifically for our little carnivore friends. I’d strongly recommend downloading a beginner's guide to raw feeding from a specialist UK rescue or raw feeding group.

    See you soon!
