Hi everyone, I've just seen an advert for EQUILIBRE ET INSTINCT pet food. I've had a look at their website and the food looks quite good.

Has anyone tried it before?

Ange, the reason the ash content is so low in this dry food is precisely because of the grains. It makes sense—if there’s not much meat, there’s bound to be very little ash, simple as that.

The only grain that could even be considered acceptable is rice.

Why give our pets grains full of gluten when more and more humans (who are actually built to digest them) are becoming gluten intolerant?

At the moment, my cat is eating Royal Canin dry food which is 35% protein. There is starch, admittedly, but Peluche just can't handle grain-free food because of a very sensitive stomach.

Grains have a part to play and aren't harmful if they're high quality and prepared properly.

For me, the main thing isn't whether there are grains or not; it's that meat is the primary ingredient and of good quality.

With brands like Virbac, Royal Canin, Hill's or Pro Plan, for example, there are still some varieties where meat isn't the main ingredient, but not all of them. If you do a bit of digging, you'll see these brands have come a long way.

It's the same with Nutrivet if you look into it:

Does no one here know what freedom of speech is?! I’ve never badmouthed or slated anyone for their ideas; it’s the lack of respect shown by some people that I won’t stand for! You're right, everyone is free to give their opinion and choose the diet they want for their cats. I agree with you there, as I do on many other topics where your advice is very sensible and has even helped me personally on certain posts. I’m not judging your studies or your personal life – that’s none of our business and we aren't here to talk about that. I was just correcting some of your points regarding the ingredients in dry food that didn't quite add up. That’s also within our rights. Now, there’s obviously no point in ganging up on one person and questioning the professionalism of a young vet like @Ange- – and I agree with you on that! So, let's all just keep the peace, please! 🤗

http://www.20minutes.fr/planete/1087533-comment-loups-devenus-chiens-digerent-amidon It’s easy to use daft examples... Talk about being disingenuous. Once upon a time, animals that lived strictly underwater evolved to be able to live on land—isn’t that a bit mental? That’s evolution for you... I’m going to stop wasting my time (once again...) We’re talking about cats, not dogs. Dogs are opportunistic carnivores.

For the umpteenth time, we are asking you to stop hijacking other members' posts with this never-ending and pointless debate about food. Far from helping those looking for advice, you’re just driving them away!

It’s easy to use such ridiculous examples... It’s pure bad faith.

In the past, animals that lived only underwater evolved to be able to live on land – isn't that a bit mad? That’s evolution for you...

I’m done wasting my time (once again...)

I'd better not be the one getting warnings or getting banned. "you talk about freedom of speech but you don't let others have it" Of course I do! Actually, I’ve never disagreed with your advice about meat-based dry food, have I? :) People need to stop saying I'm in favour of cereal-based dry food because that's completely false, and that I'm against meat – people need to get that into their heads at some point. Dry food should be meat-based, high quality, and suit the cat – that's the MAIN thing. And finally, once again, I respect everyone's choice. I completely agree with you (for once! ^^). Well, actually yes and no, because you don't accept the fact that cats are carnivores. And when we explain things properly, you jump in to say the opposite. You said, and I quote :) "Dry food should be meat-based, high quality, and suit the cat – that's the MAIN thing" So, why recommend cereal-based dry food? That's what I don't understand! The important thing is that it suits the cats, I completely agree with you there. In that case, why do you always talk about cereal-based dry food?? Even if cats eat it because of additives and other rubbish. IT isn't good for them, strictly SPEAKING. So? What you're saying doesn't make sense. I'm just trying to understand, I'm not having a go at you at all!!!!

I hope I'm not the one who ends up getting warnings or a ban.

"You talk about freedom of speech but you don't let others have it"

Actually, I do; for that matter, I've never disagreed with your advice on meat-based dry food, have I? :)

People need to stop saying I'm in favour of grain-based dry food because that's completely untrue, and that I'm against meat; you'll have to understand that eventually.

Dry food should be meat-based, high quality, and suit the cat – that's the MAIN thing.

And finally, I'll say it once more: I respect everyone's choice.

Sevv to the rescue. The bad atmosphere isn't directed at you, @Milleetunefleurs. It's just that this is a bit of a taboo subject on here. It’s a total war between the pro-grain and pro-meat camps (quick reminder: cats and dogs are carnivores, not omnivores; NO, dogs and cats haven't evolved just because they were domesticated and live with humans—take the horse, tamed by man and, oh look, how strange, it’s still a herbivore and not an omnivore, even though the first archaeological evidence of domestication dates back to 4500 BC). A species doesn't evolve just at the whim of man. And while we're at it, look at us humans. We’ve been Homo sapiens for 150,000 years!! Blimey, we haven’t evolved either!!!! A species evolves when it’s in a precarious situation (famine, sudden shifts in temperature... etc.). So @Milleetunefleurs, don’t mind our little petty war and go have a look at my blog on cat food, here are the links: - http://sensibilisationdeschats.blogspot.fr/p/croquettes-pour-chat-lesquelles-choisir.html - http://sensibilisationdeschats.blogspot.fr/p/laliment-soit-ton-premier-remede-iv.html Seve, don't talk rubbish... if we’ve evolved, we're frugivores.... Right, I'm off... xD

Has no one here heard of freedom of speech?!

I have never belittled or attacked anyone for their ideas; it’s the lack of respect shown by some people that I won’t stand for!

Yes, cats are carnivores, but under NO circumstances should they eat only meat, even if BARF is still the best diet.

Every time you chime in on a thread and someone disagrees with you, it always ends badly with PMs from the mods and bans...

You need to take a long hard look at yourself; you talk about freedom of speech but you don't let anyone else have any...
