Clear slimy discharge from my cat's bum

Evening everyone, the day before yesterday we realised after quite a while that our cat wasn't himself and was very tired. We just thought it was because he’d been going out a lot lately...

Then yesterday we noticed he was leaking some fluid; we initially thought it was urine... But when we took him to the vet, we realised this slimy, clear liquid was actually coming from his bum...

He had a temperature of 39.5°C and had pretty much stopped eating.

The vet kept him in overnight and we picked him up today, though he's still not exactly 100%...

Does anyone know what this liquid could be or what might be causing it? Have any of you dealt with something like this before?

Thanks in advance for your help.

He’s eating a bit again today, but not much, and drinking a little... but there's no improvement with that nasty liquid :/

    Hi there,

If he has diarrhoea, the slimy liquid is probably just some mucus seeping out.

That said, he really should eat something, or at the very least, have a bit to drink.

Hi, the vet isn't really sure – he's "diagnosed" gastroenteritis, but I don't think that explains everything that's wrong with my little cat... He’s just sleeping and hardly moving at all. He’s got this slimy liquid coming from his bottom, and when it’s not that, he has diarrhoea. I’m having to constantly encourage him to use the litter tray, eat or drink, because he won’t go on his own. He hasn't eaten a thing since he got home; I’ve tried the dry food from the vet, wet food, even a tiny bit of ham, but nothing is working... As for water, even when I put him right in front of the bowl, he’s only had maybe two or three licks since yesterday.

You say you’ve been to the vet. Didn’t they answer your questions, then???
