My vet suggested a box of dog Phosphaluvet for my cat. I give him one weight-based dose every morning and evening (he’s about 8.8 lbs now, as he’s lost quite a bit of weight being a senior). He’s perfectly fine and handles it well. I’ve noticed they make a cat-specific version now, but the ingredients are exactly the same, which is why the vet only stocks the dog one—it’s a larger bottle so it lasts much longer. The price is the same, too.

I also noticed afterwards that it was actually an oral gel for dogs, even though I have a cat. Thanks for your comments :)

Hi, I don’t think there’s any issue with giving it to a cat either. Mind you, do be careful with the dosage; I assume it needs to be worked out based on the cat’s weight. She also told me that it’s not the only dog medication that gets prescribed for cats, and other animals can take them too.
