Hi everyone,

My 4-month-old kitten won't stop suckling on himself. When he was just two months old, his mum went missing for three weeks (she's back now) and he's been doing it ever since. I'm not sure if I should let him carry on.

Thanks for your help.

They do it less often as they get older.

I've never seen a cat suckling on themselves... 😀 mind you, I've got one who's been nursing on my sleeve whenever I wear a fleece for three years now, and another one used to suckle on my dog... they were all boys, actually... so it's nothing to worry about.

It’s often linked to a lack of affection or being taken away from their mum too early, and that seems to be the case here...

As long as he isn't making his skin sore while he's suckling, just let him get on with it.
