My kitten's ear fur

Hi everyone,

I'm a bit curious about my little monster's ears; he has a relatively short coat but his ears are quite hairy, and he even has a little tuft behind each one. I've had three cats before and I never noticed this little quirk with any of them when they were kittens. Have any of you seen the same thing with your furry friends?

Here are some photos 📷

Have a lovely day!

    • Evening everyone, I was wondering the same thing about my little Tïa, who’s nearly 6 months old now. She’s got tufts of fur behind her ears, whereas her brothers don’t have them at all. She looks so much like your little one, it’s so funny!!

This is something that can happen with long-haired cats! It looks gorgeous, you’re so lucky! If yours is short-haired with lovely ears like those, I can’t wait to see him when he’s fully grown!

He’s 4 months old and there are bound to be some changes to his coat yet, so I’ll make sure to post some photos of him as an adult to compare 🤗

Oh, he’s stunning! I might be talking absolute rubbish here, but despite his short hair, it looks like he’s got some Norwegian Forest Cat in him... It’s the colour, the face shape and those ears that really stand out to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOgPjYxcRWw (Check out the photo at 1:15 in the video...) Edit: Oh my god, look at the tufts behind his ears! I'm in love!! You’re right, a cross with an owl seems very likely! 😁 Hi there, I’ve just seen the video; the kitten at 1:15 is so cute and the colours are definitely very similar. As for the genetics, I know the mum was a calico moggy, but the dad is a total mystery... Looking at certain details, yeah, probably some Norwegian Forest Cat genes or something similar (the owl!), the vet even asked if he was a Maine Coon cross when he saw him, so I don’t think you're talking rubbish at all! 😁

Hi, well he is just gorgeous, what a little sweetheart!! I’ve got a kitten with lots of ear tufts too, though they're not quite as prominent as yours, and she has the most unique meow. It’s somewhere between a puppy yapping and the sound of a squeaky toy!! I’m not really sure how to describe it but it’s so funny!! ;) Hi, absolutely adorable 🤗 how old is your kitten? My little girl will be 5 months old on the 1st of October!! ;)

(Have a look at the photo at 1:15 in the video especially...)

Edit: Aww, look at the fluff behind his ears! I’m melting!! Actually, a cross with an owl seems quite plausible! 😁

Hi there! Wow, what a stunning little furbaby!! I’ve got a kitten too with lots of ear tufts, though they aren't quite as prominent as yours. She has such a unique way of meowing—I can’t decide if it sounds more like a puppy’s yelp or a squeaky toy!! I’m not really sure how to describe it, but it’s ever so funny!! ;) Hi, So cute 🤗 how old is your kitten?

Hi there, Well, this little cutie is absolutely gorgeous!! I’ve got a kitten myself with loads of fluff in her ears, though it's not quite as prominent as yours. She has such a unique meow—I’m torn between a puppy’s yelp and the sound of a squeaky toy!! I’m not really sure how to describe it, but it’s ever so funny!! ;)

Thank you so much for your replies 🙂, he’s really enjoyed all those lovely compliments 😁. We'll have to see over time if those little angel wings are here to stay. Here’s a little photo of him from the front.

He’s a truly beautiful cat. Besides those little angel wings, he has spotted tabby markings that are quite rare for a little moggy; this cat is a real rarity, actually! 👍
