My cat is eating my rabbit's hay

Hello (or good evening, given the time),

Ever since I switched my rabbit to a higher quality hay, I've noticed my kitty has started stealing it. I've been finding bits of it around the flat when I get up in the morning.

And just now, while I was scooping her litter tray like I do every evening, I found a big piece of hay in there, so she's definitely eating it!

Is it dangerous for her? And why is she doing this?

Yeah, it’s definitely going to be tricky lol! Mind you, I really don't think it’ll do them much harm because hay stays quite soft and it’s only grass after all (though it depends on what kind of hay it is, of course). But it’s probably best to avoid it anyway :)

Yeah, I'm going to give him some cat grass as well.

Okay, thanks for your reply. It’s going to be tricky because my rabbit’s cage is right on the floor, so she can get to it. And since the cage stays open during the day, she can just nick some whenever she wants. Maybe if I try putting the hay rack inside the cage... I’ll have a think about it lol.

If she hasn't got any cat grass, maybe try leaving some out for her. You never know.

Hi, I wouldn't go as far as saying it's dangerous, but I don't think it's ideal for her, especially if you found a large chunk in her poo. It means she isn't digesting it, so it could give her wind or diarrhoea. Your best bet would be to block off her access to the hay :).
