Feeding kitten dry food to an adult cat

Hi everyone.

I have a 4-year-old spayed female cat.

Since she was a kitten, she’s always been very stressed and so she struggles to put on weight.

She’s getting less and less stressed now, but she still has phases where she’s a bit out of sorts.

I got her when she was 8 months old from a man who wasn’t exactly very kind to her...

I took her for a check-up at the vet to make sure everything was okay health-wise, and she’s fine.

So, for the last month, I’ve switched her onto kitten dry food because I saw it was a bit higher in fat than the adult versions.

My girl has put some weight back on!

But do you think I can carry on with this long-term, or will I need to put her back on adult dry food? Does it have to be specifically for neutered cats?

I’ve heard that things like 'neutered' or 'kitten' are just pure marketing, but you know how people talk...

Thanks

Hi, The general rule is not to give adult dry food to a kitten (it’s not nutritious enough). It’s fine to give kitten dry food to an adult cat, though, as long as they aren't overweight.

Hi, what matters most is the quality of the food you’re giving them. What brands are you using?

    Thanks for your reply.

I feed them the dry food from my vet.
