Pregnant cat with diarrhoea

Hi everyone!

I have a bit of a problem:

My cat, Millie, is about 40 days pregnant and for the last 3 days, she's had nothing but diarrhoea. I've read on several sites that I should fast her for 12-24 hours, but since she's pregnant, she needs to be able to eat as much as she wants.

I wormed her 2 days ago, but the runny stools are continuing.

So, I was hoping for some help before calling the vet.

If you need any more information, please don't hesitate to ask.

And for those who are going to tell me to get her spayed, I'll be getting her done after the kittens have been rehomed – I’ve already found plenty of homes for them 😉.

Thanks in advance.

🙂

She’s getting dehydrated, the little ones aren’t getting enough nourishment anymore, she’ll lose her strength and she won't be able to give birth. Since you don’t have any breeding experience, you won’t know what to do, or perhaps even what to look out for, and it’ll be too late to do anything.

Thanks for your reply as well. I’m going to see the vet today.

    Have a good day.

Well, when you have diarrhoea, you dehydrate quickly. Since cats need a lot of water—which they normally get from their natural prey (mice, rabbits, birds)—it can quickly become life-threatening if they lose all their fluids this way, especially if she’s expecting kittens. Thanks for your reply. Even though she’s still drinking plenty of water, I’m going to take her to the vet because it’s better safe than sorry! Thanks to everyone for the super quick responses! Have a good day 👋

Oh, she's only risking her life and the kittens' lives!

Right, I’m going to take her to the vet because it sounds serious.

Just out of curiosity, what are the actual complications that could kill the kittens? And the mum, for that matter...?

I read on some other forums that you should only start worrying on the third day, so that's why I wanted to wait a bit before calling the vet. I'm going to give them a ring right now, but if anyone could help me out... what are the risks exactly?

You should have taken them to the vet the very first day they had diarrhoea!!! Why waste time looking for answers you aren't going to get? There are lives at stake!

Being a breeder isn't something you can just wing, it’s a profession – you need to stop this before any more damage is done!
