Pregnant cat with diarrhoea

Hi everyone!

I have a bit of a problem:

My cat, Millie, is about 40 days pregnant and for the last 3 days, she's had nothing but diarrhoea. I've read on several sites that I should fast her for 12-24 hours, but since she's pregnant, she needs to be able to eat as much as she wants.

I wormed her 2 days ago, but the runny stools are continuing.

So, I was hoping for some help before calling the vet.

If you need any more information, please don't hesitate to ask.

And for those who are going to tell me to get her spayed, I'll be getting her done after the kittens have been rehomed – I’ve already found plenty of homes for them 😉.

Thanks in advance.

🙂

Hi! We went to the vet and she said she definitely has worms. She’s prescribed some antibiotics. While she was at it, she saw that the kittens’ hearts were beating! She said even though it’s her first litter, she’s going to have at least four! Luckily, loads of our friends want one! Anyway, thanks to everyone for all your advice! Have a lovely evening. PS: If you have a foolproof trick for getting her to take her syrup without her being scared of us afterwards, I’m all ears! Just so you know... she’s very stubborn! Hi, I’m so glad you’ve managed to find a solution! As for the syrup, have you tried mixing it with a bit of wet food?

Didn't you have an X-ray or a scan done?!

How will you know if they've all come out okay?

I’m going to get one done a week before she's due to give birth.

Fair enough, I didn't know that about cats. However, I know it's strictly forbidden for ferrets (risks mentioned in the previous post, plus issues with their testicles etc.), so I just assumed it was the same 😳 😁

On the other hand, if I’m not mistaken, I think worming an animal right in the middle of pregnancy is really, really bad and toxic for the babies (deformities, stillbirths, etc.) :/

I asked the vet and he told me it wasn’t a problem because he’d prescribed a wormer specifically for pregnant cats.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to reply!

    😁

Right, I've got an appointment at 7:15 pm. I'll let you know how it all goes. Anyway, thanks so much—I didn't expect to get replies so quickly! From now on, I won't hesitate to ask questions if there’s a problem, or to call the vet, because a small issue can quickly turn into a big one! Have a good day.

Yeah, but the water she's drinking isn't enough, which is why wet food is so important.

Cats need more than 80% water...

Yes, it would be wise to take her in soon :)

    Keep us posted.

    Yes, I will!

    Have a lovely day!

    👋🙂
