My kitten keeps suckling my earlobe – why?

Hi there,

My 2-month-old kitten suckles my earlobe when he's purring and wants a cuddle. He also rubs his nose against mine...

Is this normal behaviour?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Yeah, I’ve started saying "no" to him gently and then giving him a stroke straight away. It’s often when he’s on my lap. :-) It’s working so far! :-)

You've got to be gentle with her; as soon as you stop her, give her a cuddle straight away.

Thank you so much for all your replies!!!!! Sorry it’s taken me so long to get back to you!!!

Right, I’m going to try and gently break him of this habit... I hope I manage it and that he doesn't become aggressive because of it. :-(

My cat does the same thing to my finger! It's because he wasn't weaned properly.

    Yes, I know, Jocya ;)

I was just giving a heads-up in case this kitten has the same reaction as the one I was talking about.

Yes @dellys, you're right, but I didn't have to step in; they stopped all on their own. Mind you, Savannah........ Ophelia............ Grichka are still at it.

Réglisse mostly rubs up against my face and licks it :) He’s never done any suckling, though.

Well, the kitten I had who used to do that (when I was a kid) started getting aggressive whenever I tried to stop him because his teeth were starting to hurt. That’s why I’d definitely recommend stopping the kitten from picking up that bad habit.

I’ve had kittens who did that, but they grow out of it on their own. I’ve already got two who don’t do it anymore.
