I've been away for a week on a work trip and I've come back to find my little kitten... with a right little potbelly! (My partner has clearly been looking after him well, from what I can see).
For a three-month-old kitten, he is getting Pro Plan kitten dry food ad lib, plus one pouch a day, which is about 100g (0.2 lbs) of wet food.
I think that’s a bit much, isn't it? To give you an idea, I bought a 400g (nearly 1 lb) bag of dry food two weeks ago and it's almost gone...
I've spoken to my partner and told him to cut back the portions... but he says our cat is hungry all the time; I just think he's struggling to self-regulate!
Thanks for your replies

In my opinion, that’s far too much wet food; it’s not great for his health and 0.2 lbs a day is a lot. I’d split one pouch over two days and not give it to him every day. Every other day, for instance.
Otherwise, keep the dry food topped up—he’s eating a lot because he’s got a lot of growing to do! He won’t get overweight while he’s still a kitten, so don’t worry. You’ll only need to be a bit more careful once he’s been neutered, but without depriving him of food either.
You should never restrict a kitten's food intake.
The weight you’ve mentioned for your cat seems perfectly normal, especially given the breed (which has actually been bred to be heavier over the last few years).
In my opinion, a male should be at least 4.8 lbs at 4 months old, so his current weight is spot on.
Thanks for the advice, I’m going to follow it and I’ll make sure my friend does too... I’ve just weighed Gibbs and at three months and two weeks old he’s about 4 lbs. Do you think he’s too chunky for his age???
Yes @Gibbs, your little one is definitely getting too much to eat. Leaving dry food out all day plus 100g of wet food every day is massive for such a tiny thing. Just a heads up, it's really hard to put a cat on a diet once they're older.
My advice: kitten dry food available all the time is fine, but only give him half a pouch of wet food twice a week (make sure you keep the opened pouch in an airtight container in the fridge). And don’t give it at the same time as the dry food because they digest at different rates. When he has his wet food, take the dry food away and only put it back about two hours after he's finished his meal.
Your kitten is absolutely adorable ;)
