My cat almost ate a green grasshopper

Hi everyone, I'm posting because I'm really worried about my kitten. The other day, I was in the living room with him and a green grasshopper suddenly flew in. My cat pounced on it and tried to eat it. I managed to get it out of his mouth and put the bug outside.

What I mean is, I'm worried about him eating such big insects. Is it dangerous if he eats bugs? Are they toxic or do they carry diseases? Could it be down to his breed or his age?

Thanks, any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

PS: Just a bit of info – he’s a Birman kitten, 3 months and 1 week old, and quite a big lad for his age.

Your little kitten is just learning to hunt. Just let him get on with it, it’s only natural. I promise you he’s not going to die just because he’s eaten a grasshopper—and a green one at that! If you look at the cats roaming around outside, they’re all great hunters. So, have a bit of faith in your little kitty and just let him play.

At least your little kitty is getting used to the food of the future ;) This isn't the first post asking for this kind of info, and it's perfectly safe for your little one.

Hi, Personally, my cat has already eaten grasshoppers and other locusts, even when he was a two-month-old kitten... it never did him any harm, quite the opposite. Mind you, I wouldn't say it's a good idea for him to eat loads of them every day, but one every now and then shouldn't be a problem.
