I’ve noticed that people talk a lot about "messy cats", but it's usually about those who don't use their litter tray or who ruin beds and sofas. So, I wanted to start a thread about cats (well, a kitten in my case) who don't clean their behinds.
My little girl is still young (5 months old) and when she gets out of her litter tray, the fur on her bum (and sometimes the back of her legs and tail) is often matted with poo... It’s really not ideal, especially as she doesn't settle down to clean herself right after leaving her "poop-room" (plus she’s semi-longhaired, which makes it even more of a nightmare!)
I’ve tried looking for solutions on forums online, but besides just "waiting it out", I haven’t found anything very useful, I must say. So, if you have any tips or advice, or if you’ve been through this yourself, please do share :) In the meantime, I’ll keep cleaning her with a flannel and some water so I don’t irritate her skin.

Isyl is wormed every month, so there are no issues on that front. I’m not even sure if it’s down to what she’s eating; as I said, she’s been on Nutrivet for about a fortnight now. It’s supposed to be a really high-quality dry food, yet I haven’t noticed any difference in her stools.
I’ve been giving her less wet food because she drinks quite regularly anyway.
Regarding the litter, I might give the one P'tite Fleur suggested a go at some point. It’s true that 30lbs is a massive bag! I’ll see once I’ve finished the one I’ve already got.
So, I really don't know what's causing these soft stools. And, since I've never had a cat before, do they usually groom themselves immediately after using the litter tray, or is it normal for them not to bother straight away?
I used to give him some twice a week...
I’d also recommend Almo Nature... they’re really good... just not for Flem...
I know loads of people talk about Applaws... but I don’t dare try it with Flemming... because an 18 lb Maine Coon with diarrhoea all over his backside... it’s not exactly easy to clean up! lol
That’s why I also suggested Applaws :) Generally, cats get on well with these tins and yes, there are exceptions, but if you look at it that way, you’d never end up recommending anything.
I actually pointed out: "Spot on @Zanaya, when wet food makes up a full part of the daily diet, you have to be quite thorough :) Just like with dry food. It also depends on the puss’s tolerance."
If you order from Zooplus, they also stock the Applaws brand that @Sevv recommended to me; apparently, they’ve just brought out a new grain-free range.
I’ve read that they absolutely love it! :)
So now you know it’s no good :) Last time we got a small tin for the dogs it was the same thing—diarrhoea—and then they turned their noses up at it as well. So that was the last time; from now on, it’s either decent wet food or nothing at all.
If you have any pet shops nearby, Almo Nature is really good :)
