Carrie Clark and her husband from Utah were stunned to get a call from a vet telling them that their beloved missing cat, Galena, had been found in Los Angeles.
Amazon stow away
Galena, who disappeared on 10 April, is an important emotional support to her owner, Carrie, who has experienced several health challenges in recent years.
Despite an extensive search, the tortoiseshell cat was nowhere to be found until 17 April when, remarkably, her microchip was scanned all the way away in California.
It was discovered that Galena had inadvertently stowed away in a large box filled with work boots that the family was shipping as a return item.
After being trapped in the box for six days without food or water, Galena was eventually discovered by an Amazon worker named Brandy, who found the cat among the returns at the California warehouse.
Emotional reunion
After speaking to the vet, Carrie spoke to Brandy on the phone, who was relieved to hear that Galena had a family who loved her. Carrie and her husband immediately rushed to California to retrieve their feline friend. As Carrie walked through the door, Galena immediately recognised her voice and the pair were clearly relieved to be back together.
Remarkably, despite her ordeal, Galena was unharmed, just a little skinner and dehydrated.
With Galena back home safe and sound, Carrie urges pet owners to not only microchip their pets but also be extra careful when handling Amazon boxes!
Welcome home, Galena!
