Which stars adore which dogs, and why?

It isn’t just us mere mortals who adore dogs. The stars of stage and screen adore dogs just as much and sometimes, by their own admission, adore them more than people. After all, most celebrities just want to come home to quiet cuddles and far more genuine love than they get from those in their circle.

Lorraine Kelly

When her border terrier Angus turned one year old in October, TV presenter Lorraine Kelly told The Sun newspaper it felt as though Angus had been, ‘part of the family for ever’.

He can be very naughty,’ Ms Kelly continued, ‘and this summer when we drove to Spain with him in the back of the car, he chewed up his passport and we had to get him an emergency one to get him back into the UK.’

Ben Fogle

TV presenter and explorer Ben Fogle adores his black Labrador Storm, telling The Sun she is the ‘light of our family’.

She is funny and naughty,’ he added. ‘She steals food and chews the kids’ toys but they always forgive her. When she wakes them in the morning, they smile as she leaps into their beds. In return, we show her our love.’

It been said that a dog is the only thing in the world that loves you more than you love yourself. And if you’re constantly in the spotlight, fielding fans’ obsessions or the flattery of your agent, a dog’s love must surely be just the tonic to a hard days ‘faming’. No wonder stars adore their dogs.

Nick John Whittle lives and works in Birmingham, UK. He is a specialist copywriter, journalist and theatre critic. Over the years Nick’s family has owned dogs, cats, rodents and birds.
