Simon and Sammie, two dogs who were rescued and taken to the Paws and Claws Animal Clinic in South Carolina only a few weeks apart, have forged an unbreakable friendship – on the operating table, of all place! The two dogs had lived through terrible experiences, and it seems like they recognized the pain in each others’ eyes. The bond they have made will astound you.
This picture shows Simon, the one-year-old Border Collie, reassuring Sammie as he lies on the operating table, recovering from serious surgery. Simon gently puts his paw on Sammie’s to reassure the pup, who had been clinging onto life for at least three days before he was rescued.
Sammie, who is four months old, was seriously mistreated. He was found spray-painted blue, dragged behind a car and finally shot in the head. Although he appeared dead, the brave Sammie was still alive and in serious need of medical attention.
That was when he was taken to Paws and Claws Animal Clinic, where he received the first of several surgeries. Simon’s presence, however, seemed to soothe Sammie, and it was clear that both dogs took comfort in the connection. There is a touching sense of calmness and understanding between the two abused dogs.
This was all made possible by Rescue Dogs of Rock NYC, a New York-based rescue group that sponsored Simon and Sammie’s healthcare to make sure that they got the treatment they needed.
There is a chance that Sammie might lose his leg, which was crushed under the wheel of the car, but the staff at the Paws and Claws Animal Clinic are certain that both dogs will make full recoveries. Sammie still needs a lot of surgery, but now he has a best friend to help him pull through.
Simon is always at Sammie’s side. It’s like he understands that they’re going through the same situation and that they will need each other to make it through.
Destiny helped bring these two dogs together – there’s no doubt that Simon is the guardian angel that Sammie sorely needed. Once they have recovered, they’ll be all set for their forever homes.
