It isn’t often that a cat is called upon to make a prediction of national importance. But following the recent Royal announcement that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were expecting their first child, the time had come for one moggy to work his magic (again).
Phoenix the cat has already made a name for himself by correctly guessing the gender of Christine Lampard’s baby. Once more, he was called on by ITV’s ‘Lorraine’ show to predict the same of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Two bowls were placed in front of him, one blue and one pink, and the audience waited with bated breath for the cat to make his move.
He pawed the pink bowl.
‘Oh my goodness, it’s a girl,’ said showbiz correspondent Dan Wootton. ‘It was straight in there. There was no doubt,’ he added.
Is Phoenix right?
We have another few months to wait to find out whether Phoenix is right. The Royal announcement read: ‘Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019.’
If his prediction turns out to be correct it won’t be the first time Pheonix has shown himself to be an extraordinary feline. During the recent World Cup, Phoenix’s owner Catherine Jarvis made a name for herself when she promised her cat was more than capable of predicting the outcome of a match between Belgium and Panama and England and Tunisia.
Phoenix won’t be the first animal to make a name for itself by predicting events.
The success of Paul the Octopus during the 2010 World Cup brought him worldwide adoration as an animal ‘oracle’. And the Lithuanian Lazdeika the Crab correctly predicted the outcomes of the Lithuanian national basketball team’s matches in the EuroBasket 2011.
