Back in 2013, Georgia Obenaus, CEO and founder of Go Rescue Pet Adoption Center in Virginia Beach, discovered an abandoned Pit Bull known as Marco. It was obvious that Marco went through a nightmare and back. He had no hair, open wounds, and a skin infection. He also had a bone where his tail should have been.
Another thing that Georgia wasn’t actually aware of when she first met him: Marco the Pit Bull was blind. “It’s difficult anyway to find a home for a blind dog and then it’s difficult to find a home for a bully breed,” she explained.
No, Marco wasn’t in any form adoptable, but she still chose him, regardless of his imperfections. She made it her objective to find him a loving forever home.
Through the help of the community, Go Rescue Pet Adoption Center gathered the funds they needed to cover the cost of Marco’s eye surgery. Folks across the country donated for his operation and medical costs. In November 2015, Marco was at last free from his cataracts. For the very first time ever, he could see the whole world properly. Georgia couldn’t help but cry when he ran into her arms.
Georgia was certain that this was precisely what Marco needed to make him a more “desirable pet.” Unfortunately, the perfect pawrents just didn’t seem to come… until Georgia’s wish finally came true, and she was ready to bid her bittersweet farewell.
Ashley and Sara McGinley had contributed to Marco’s medical funds and followed his story from the start.
After Marco’s operation, the married couple thought that he had been adopted. When they discovered that he was still searching for a family, they got really excited, and decided to adopt him! Now, Ashley, Sara and Marco are all excited for the happy years to come.
