But be quick! The ‘pup up’ to be held at the Phoenix arts venue in Exeter’s Gandy Street is almost sold out, in no small part thanks to the efforts of organisers Marcus Ackford and his partner Chloe, who began marketing the event in January on Facebook.
The event, which will be held on the 7th April this year, is expected to host at least 200 owners and their dogs.
It is a ticketed affair catering especially for Doxy owners. Those without dogs are welcome to join in the fun, but organisers ask that ‘there's at least 1PPP (Pup Per Party) if you're coming with more than 2 people.’
The event runs from 10am until 5pm and is billed to be a fun day for everyone involved, packed with competitions and games. There is also a chance to win a personalised pet portrait painted by artist Mark Charman, who has been a commissioned animal illustrator for over 30 years.
What's better than 'tonnes' of Dachshunds?
In an interview with Devon Live, Mr Ackford said, ‘My girlfriend has a Dachshund and she’s always wanted to be in a place where there are tonnes of Dachshunds and lots of little puppies running around.'
‘So we said why don’t we set it up? We hadn’t really heard of many before. I think there were a couple in London a few years ago but haven’t heard of any down here so set one up and it went a bit crazy.’
Pop-up events have been growing in popularity for about two years (although a pop-up Dachshund café is a rarity). The transient format is appealing to organisers and the public alike: cheaper to organise and with a greater sense of uniqueness than something long-standing.
