An Edmonton cat has returned to its family after a four year ‘walkabout’ around the state of Alberta, Canada.

Zoey disappeared in May 2015, but made contact again at the beginning of February before being reunited with the Lien-Comin family. She is now expected to continue life as she lived it before that fateful spring day when she walk-ran out and didn’t come back.
A cat from another era
Last seen before Trudeau, Trump, and Theresa May came to power, Zoey has lived wild through a series of world-changing events but apparently shrugged them off as she processed the heartbreak that drove her from home. Back in 2015, the parents of Samantha Lien had come to stay with Lien, Zoey, and their five-year-old granddaughter, Kalona Lien-Comin – and they’d brought their dog with them. After an apparent dispute between the two quadrupeds saw Zoey chased from the house, the bipeds of the family began a fly-poster and classifieds campaign to track the errant cat down.
But it was all to no avail, and they soon came to the assumption that Zoey was dead. And then, last Wednesday, the phone rang.
“I got a call from the City of Edmonton that they had Zoey,” Lien told Global News. Zoey had been turned into the authorities just 50 blocks from the Lien family home in Edmonton. Shelter investigators were able to trace her ex-family through the cat’s tattoos and expired license.
Little Miss Emotional
Much like the character of Travis Henderson in Paris, Texas, who is returned to his family mute and un-cooperative after disappearing four years previously, Zoey showed few obvious signs of being happy to be home. Lien even filmed the surprise reuniting between the cat and young Kalona, now eight years old – but Zoey just trotted past them, indifferent to the heartache she’d caused.
“Why is there a cat in there?” a Facebook video shows Kalona asking when confronted with the itinerant puss. “Zoey? That’s Zoey?… After all these years, I can’t believe it’s you!”
But something inside Zoey seems to have died through all these years of living rough and regretting, no doubt, the manner in which she had provoked the Lien parents’ dog way back in the days of "Uptown Funk," the FIFA scandal, and Caitlyn Jenner’s appearance on the cover of Vanity Fair. “She’s a little feisty,” says Lien of Zoey today. “A little more aggressive, for sure.”
