The HBO smash hit Game of Thrones is known for its high body count, but this latest death might be too much for some fans to bear.

No character in Game of Thrones is safe. From Ned Stark to Rob Stark, to King Joffrey to Ramsey Bolton, the show has seen off good and bad characters alike, and in ways that appear completely indifferent to their respective virtues or vices.
But the amoral universe of Westeros may well have claimed it's first genuine innocent, a little ginger Tomcat who you might know as Ser Pounce.
A brief but memorable appearance
Tommen Baratheon's pet cat made his appearance in season 4, although he only "starred" in one episode. But despite his brief cameo, some fans have been waiting for a surprise return.
Given the miraculous “second coming" of John Snow, as well as the reappearance of fan favourites like The Hound, it wouldn't have been too much of a shock to see Ser Pounce back on our screens.
However, fans were dealt a cruel blow after sources on the show revealed that Ser Pounce is gone forever.
And it’s been suggested that it was the cat's off-screen behaviour that led to its sudden disappearance.
Too big for its own paws
David Benioff is a runner on the show. He’s been quoted as saying: “That cat was really not fun to work with...Dogs generally do what you ask them to do if they’re smart and well trained. Cats have their own agenda.”
And it wasn't just the crew that had problems dealing with the cats demanding ways; Ser Pounce quickly rubbed his co-stars up the wrong way. Natalie Dormer, who played Margaery Tyrell, had this to say:
“Ser Pounce was a bit of a diva...he was very difficult to work with.”
Game of Thrones is back for its 8th and final series on the 14th April. Given what's happened so far, fans have no idea about which of their favourite characters will survive and which ones will meet their grisly end. But one thing we do know for certain is that we've seen the last of poor Ser Pounce.
