In a recent survey of 10,000 voters, the Staffie Bull Terrier has been voted the best pooch in the UK. But which other breeds were voted as Britain’s best dogs?

By Dawn Parrish, 5 Feb 2019

A recent TV show gave members of the public the chance to choose their favourite dog breed.  A live TV vote determined the winning breed following a survey taken from 10,000 people. The Labrador was 2018’s winner who has dropped down to third place this year. The King Charles Spaniel and the Jack Russell have both slipped down the list too.

The winning breed announced on live TV

Ben Fogle and Sara Cox announced the results of the poll. The UK is a nation of dog lovers, that much is clear, but many viewers were astounded as the results. Certainly, it’s not common knowledge that the winning dog breed is a docile, gentle dog that is easy to look after. His fierce appearance and playful, energetic personality perhaps make him less appealing to some people looking for a new family pet.

Dog owners responded in various ways

As the results were announced on TV, owners of different dog breeds took to Twitter to share their unhappiness that the Staffie had won. Many complained that the Pugs or Cockapoos should have been in first place, yet lovers of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier breed argues that it certainly was the favourite in Britain.
