A few years ago, dog lovers in Minnesota noticed an emaciated stray dog wandering the local woods. But with temperatures falling and the weather becoming bitter, they tipped off The Wildcat Sanctuary to step in and help this poor, unloved doggy.

They called her Cookie

The sanctuary decided to take the pooch in and give her some much-needed TLC. They gave her the adorable name of Cookie! Speaking to The Dodo, a member of staff at the sanctuary said: "Even though we’re a sanctuary for wild cats, I can’t tell you the number of phone calls I get about all sorts of animals in need," "Of course, we’ll do everything we can to help any animal suffering. That’s how this sweet little girl ended up at our gate."

Cookie was underweight, had visible tumours and was partially blind. Thankfully, she began making a recovery and the sanctuary fitted her with a pair of winter boots.

Cookie, our rescue dog, gets winter boots!

Many have been asking how does Cookie do with her new winter boots? Well, here's a little video to show you. And BTW, her faux leopard fur dog coat will soon be here thanks to a loving fan of hers ? Cookie inspired an Autistic boy on the other side of the ocean

Sanctuary staff posted photos and videos of Cookie on their Facebook page - they were in love with the gorgeous little pup. A boy called William, who lived over here in England, saw the post on his Mother's Facebook feed. Diagnosed with autism at 3 years old, William, who is now 9, has struggled to speak his entire life.

But when William saw the photo of Cookie in his snazzy winter boots, he immediately spoke.

"Not only did he actually speak and say ... 'Cookie wearing shoes, funny,' but he gave me his opinion of the photo too!" William's Mum told The Dodo, "It was so magical."

And it wasn't a one off

William is continually following Cookie's updates with his Mum. He regularly says 'Cookie-dog' out loud - which is a huge triumph for William and his family.

What an inspiring story!

We hope that William gets to meet 'Cookie-dog' one day and that his speech continues to improve. You'll also be pleased to hear that Cookie is making a wonderful recovery and has been adopted by the sanctuary forever! Congrats, Cookie and William!
