Life is hard when you're a shelter dog. You spend the days praying that one of these visiting humans will pick you out and give you the one thing you want most, a forever home.
So imagine how it feels when you keep getting ignored? It's heartbreaking. And unfortunately, some dogs get ignored more than others.
'Invisible' dogs
Juan is one of those 'invisible' pooches. Like many other senior dogs, the 10-year-old Labrador mix is always overlooked by would-be dog parents, who are more interested in the younger and 'cuter' puppies.
All this rejection is starting to take its toll on poor Juan. In recent weeks, staff at theValladolid Scooby Rescue Shelter in Spain have noticed a real change in him.
Juan is sad, has little appetite, and shows no interest in the people visiting the shelter. It's like Juan knows he'll never have a real home.
Rescue workers think shelter life is wearing Juan down. So they're making a huge effort to get Juan out of the shelter and into a forever home.
This week, the staff launched a dedicated re-home Juan social media campaign, hoping that someone will see just how special this senior dog really is.
''Juan is one of our special cases," reads the shelter's Facebook post. "He's an amazing dog, but he seems to have lost hope. We won't give up on him. He deserves a family and has much love to offer. Give him a chance. You won't regret it."
Senior dogs need love, too
Many people are reluctant to adopt senior dogs due to the increased likelihood of medical issues and expensive vet visits. But with the proper care, older dogs can live happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives.
Old dogs are also calmer, making them an excellent choice for less active and new owners. Most importantly, older rescue dogs like Juan will truly appreciate you taking a chance on them. The love you give a senior dog always comes back 1,000 times over.
